What academic institutions offer cryptocurrency studies?

Recently, some renowned universities in the world decided to introduce blockchain technology to their curricula. It is impossible to underestimate the fact that universities have been involved in research related to blockchain technology for a long time. Currently, more and more often you can meet with universities, both in Poland and in the world, which have knowledge about cryptocurrencies in their curricula.

We mention many times in our communication channels that investing in cryptocurrencies should always be preceded by education. All because of the dynamics of the market itself – lack of substantive preparation and basic knowledge of the mechanisms of functioning of digital assets will always threaten the risk of losing capital.

That is why today we will look at scientific institutions that offer cryptocurrency studies. Enjoy reading!

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is recognized as a leader in technology research (including blockchain). It is the second most prestigious university in the world after Harvard University. MIT is known for its innovative research and competitive academic program.

MIT boasts an excellent research community. The current chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Gary Gensler, is teaching a course on blockchain technology at the university. There is also the MIT Bitcoin Club on campus, one of the oldest entities of its kind, which acts as a hub for crypto discussion.

In 2014, the university arranged an event called the MIT Digital Currency Experiment that distributed bitcoin to students in an effort to promote cryptocurrency adoption. In addition, MIT launched a peer-reviewed blockchain science journal to document the growing interest of researchers in the field. The journal is distributed free of charge, in accordance with the idea of decentralization.

Here are some of the courses at the university dealing with cryptocurrencies:

Harvard University

Harvard University, as one of the oldest universities in the United States, enjoys worldwide recognition and reputation. Since its founding in 1636, Harvard has educated eight people who later became presidents of the United States, fourteen Turing Award winners, and many Nobel Prize winners.

In the spirit of innovation, Harvard has introduced a program on blockchain technology to its educational offer. The university has partnered with Coursera to provide access to six free cryptocurrency courses that cover the basics as well as more advanced topics. One of the courses, entitled “Breakthrough Innovation with Blockchain Technology”, focuses on exploring the application of artificial intelligence in conjunction with blockchain in various industries.

Harvard also boasts an active crypto student community with over 200 members. Regular meetings and discussions about cryptocurrencies are held at the university, as part of the so-called “Crypto 101”. In addition, there is an incubator on campus that allows students to develop and scale their own cryptocurrency projects.

Oxford University

It is difficult to underestimate the press of the University of Oxford in the face of the fact that we are talking about the second oldest (and still functioning) scientific institution in the world.

When it comes to blockchain technology, Oxford is one of the leading research centers in Europe, thanks to an extensive and modern research center called the Oxford-Hainan Blockchain Research Institute.

Oxford Foundry, the university’s center of entrepreneurship, has partnered with Ripple to promote the benefits of using the blockchain. The university also has a vibrant blockchain-related student community known as the Oxford Blockchain Society. This one successfully competes with similar organizations at other universities (see Crypto 101 and MIT Digital Currency Experiment). In terms of study, here are some of the crypto majors available at the university:

Polish crypto universities

The SGH Warsaw School of Economics

The Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) in Warsaw offers an attractive curriculum related to blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. This university provides the opportunity to undertake postgraduate studies called “Blockchain, Smart Contracts and Digital Currencies”. According to the information available on the university’s website, students will gain knowledge about various aspects of this industry: business, technical, economic and financial and, what is extremely important, legal.

AGH University of Science and Technology

Yes, the course called “Cybersecurity” at the Faculty of Computer Science, Electronics and Telecommunications is not directly related to cryptocurrencies. Nevertheless, the development of this digital technology creates a demand for specialists in the field of cybersecurity. A person who undertakes studies in this field will gain the skills to use tools related to the security and audit of ICT networks. At the same time, she will have the opportunity to learn the principles of operation of basic cryptographic tools and legal regulations regarding the protection of personal data. Such skills are most useful in this industry.

Warsaw School of Information Technology (WITunder the auspices of the Polish Academy of Sciences

At WIT, you can take up master’s studies in the field of “Blockchain in business”. The curriculum focuses on gaining knowledge in the field of cryptography, databases and payment systems, with particular emphasis on solutions based on blockchain technology.

Other educational platforms dedicated to blockchain technology

The Internet offers a plethora of both paid and free educational platforms dedicated to blockchain technology. It is enough to check dedicated channels on YouTube, blogs of cryptocurrency exchanges or crypto influencers to instantly gain access to a satisfactory (at least in terms of the amount of available materials) amount of content on the topic we are interested in. Unfortunately, in many cases, the people behind these projects prey on the naivety of people unfamiliar with the meanders of the industry. Therefore, under the guise of the “sincere” intention to spread knowledge, there is actually a hack to sell the same people courses or solutions that will reduce their savings and feed the “mentors” purse.
